Tim Ferriss has strategically laid out great tools and advice from some of the greatest thought leaders in our generation on how to live effectively. For me personally one of the most inspired thought leaders of our past generations is Rabbi Lord Sacks Ztl. Tim Ferriss brilliantly brought out Rabbi Sacks in an awesome Podcast interview, a key component to bring us all to a revealed level of United Souls! How to empower people to become more soulful, we call this in universal common terms inspiring leadership in others. Rabbi Lord Sacks learned the ability to be a leader as a student in Uni with a special meeting with the Lubavitcher on a journey through the US on Greyhound buses. The Rebbe continued to guide Rabbi Sacks to eventually become the chief rabbi of the British commonwealth. So how is this a tool for our 2020-2 generation? Firstly, we must become people of the soul, and secondly, then leaders in our own making! Our minds need to rule over our emotions so we can properly focus on our daily life to lead us on the road of the soul. That’s the first step of leadership to be a leader over our own inclinations! Like a famous Chassidic Rebbe from Sanz the Divrei Chaim once taught, “When I was young, an ardent love of G-d burning inside me, I thought I could transform the world. Realizing that this was too ambitious, I resolved to change the citizens of my town. But the town was large and varied and resistant to change. Soon I realized that I’d better just concentrate on improving the Jewish People of my city. But the Jewish People were happy with the way they were, so when I realized that I turned to correct the conduct of my family. But by then my children were grown and had their own views. Now I finally realized I must begin by changing myself.” From the personal inner transformation and inner will to bring about global change combined, a person has begun the conversation of the Soul. The soul deeply wants to see spiritualization both within and without. We are all so different and unique, yet our deepest desire is to experience United Souls. The intimate experience is a microcosm of United Souls. A teacher to a student, an internalization or deep wisdom, an act of charity, a specific prayer with the intent of unification, an expression of profound creativeness that unites different concepts and contradictory thoughts, are all tools to reveal the United Souls!
Let us quote the famous author and thought leader for many Brenè Brown from her appreciated best seller book “Dare to Lead” - “Dare to Lead” is the bible for courage-building in the workspace. Leaders and teams alike face serious problems showing up vulnerable at work; instead, they sabotage themselves, killing innovation and creativity. - I define a leader as anyone who takes responsibility for finding the potential in people and processes, and who has the courage to develop that potential. - Wholeheartedness captures the essence of a fully examined emotional life and an elevated heart, one that is free and vulnerable enough to love and be loved. And a heart that is equally free and vulnerable to be broken and hurt.” Now back to the Soul, as it says in psalms and the sages of the Talmud “there is nothing more precious than a Broken Heart.” From the painful moments of life, we learn so much about empathy and the ability to empower others from their place of pain. Life is going to be filled with pain and struggle, often where my wife and I comment that our hearts are so broken that we can’t take it anymore. However, this gives us spiritual renewal, the ability to pray and be present, to really transform this pain with those in our sphere of influence to Sincere Joy.
One of the most profound other tools for soul connection is forgiveness. A person needs to preempt the scenarios of life which can bring about non-soulful ways like holding a grudge, anger, jealousy, and pride. Forgiveness and acceptance will prevent a soulful person from falling into a trap, especially when in close contact with loved ones. During the Corona Challenge Lockdowns, we are forced into spending time with our loved ones for many weeks, many feel overwhelmed. The opportunity to connect and forgive by proceeding with all the scenarios and tests hopefully will lead to sincere connection and correction. The family focus empowers us to transform a time of pain where our broken hearts can only be healed by being a leader and role models. Our journey in this world needs us to go out of our comfort zones with courage and strength. In fact, the last words of the Book of Joshua we shall read in this festive time are called Simchat HaTorah from Moshe Rabbainu to Yeshua Ben Nun the new leader of the Jewish people who are empowered to bring them into the holy land. From leader to leader with the most important tradition in the world in word form, only in 5 English words originally 3 Hebrew words to be passed on “Ruk Chazak Ve'ematz” - “only be strong and courageous!”
